WIND TURBINE GENERATOR DEMOLITION

PDI assisted NCE with the Wind Turbine Generator demolition. The scope of work included the installation of protective material to the foundation and anchor bolts, backfilling around the base with pea gravel, installation of PVC piping over bolts, bolts were then topped with conveyor belt material and crane mats were also used as a final protective measure. PDI then assisted NCE with cutting a ‘birds-mouth’ out of the turbine to facilitate the installation of explosive charges and prepped the fall by removing any topsoil that may be affected with the dropping of the tower.

After the tower had been felled, PDI processed the tower using torching equipment and 40T excavators equipped with shears to dismember it and dozers to separate the generator from the tower. Cranes were used to load material into NCE supplied bins for disposal. Finally, after all turbine components were removed from site, PDI regraded the land. The foundations of the turbine were also salvaged.

“The Terminal 1 job was the project that was a turning point for us in being able to bid larger projects without being afraid of actually doing them.”
