EDEN VALLEY WTP

At Eden Valley WTP, a fire broke out that caused damage to the water treatment plant. AE Associated (on behalf of the Bearspaw First Nation), contracted PDI to complete the demolition, removal, and clean-up of the existing water treatment plant. The plant consisted of two buildings that were separated by a walkway. The older plant (North) was built in 2005 while the newer plant (South) was built in 2019. The North plant was destroyed by the fire while the South plant was heavily damaged by smoke, fire and water. The Bearspaw First Nation requested that PDI salvage the South plant for further rehab and/or upgrades within the building footprint.

The project presented several significant challenges, including limited availability of critical resources such as fuel and rental equipment and damage from the fire left the site with hazardous debris and no power. These issues were further compounded by cold weather conditions and communication difficulties due to the absence of cellular reception onsite. Adding to the complexity of this project, the water treatment plant was the sole source of water for the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations, making it essential that PDI met an aggressive schedule pleasing multiple stakeholders including First Nations and government officials. Despite these constraints, the team responded efficiently and collaboratively, overcoming each challenge.
