Route 17 over the Broward River was PDI’s first bridge in the State of Florida. The PDI team faced new challenges having to battle hurricane Nicole during the removal. In this 2-phase project PDI removed the Northbound bridge in phase 1 and the Southbound bridge in phase 2. The PDI team was able to stay ahead of schedule despite the storm. The bridge consisted of 5 smaller spans requiring barges to mobilize the excavator into position and catch falling debris from the demolition, to ensure it did not go into the waterway below.

We used large pieces of concrete from the bridge to help stabilize the bank after demolition, and recycled or crushed 100% of the remaining material.
